Assignment objective: Shoot photojournalistic portraits of either 1) a newsworthy person or 2) a person in a newsworthy situation. This can certainly have a “feature” quality to it.

Story: October 10 is world mental health day. This feature story looks at Trent Davis, the coordinator of animal assisted therapy and licensed professional counselor at Virginia Tech, and how he advocates for mental health of students on campus.

Assignment objective: Cover an organized sporting event. 

Story: Blacksburg High School Junior Varsity football versus Patrick Henry junior Junior Varsity Football on October 25, 2023. 

Assignment objective: Tell the story of something newsworthy. Newsworthy includes hard news and spot news. Cannot be a feature story!

Story: A local author hits #1 in Amazon's new releases in October.
